greetings form Hong Kong! After spending 3 days in England just to remind myself what cold is about I’m now back in a warm place to my delight.
I’ve arrived here a few days ago and have been working flat out updating my website and running errands which means I haven’t really done much in this fascinating city yet. But the people who know me well will also know that this place is almost like my second hometown as I’ve lived here before and come back as much as I can possibly can. Nevertheless coming from one of the poorest places on the planet to one of the richest in just a few days does not leave me indifferent and I need time to adjust. One example was celebrating halloween with my wife and friends late last night. One of my friends ordered too much food and no one wanted to eat anymore. I took it to myself to finish the entire plate as I just couldn’t bare wasting food. The memory of seeing people who depend on World Food Program rations for their survival is a strong one.
My African experience has slowly started to sink in and I start to realise that my month there is reshaping my way of looking at things. For example I’m relearning the value of patience and unplanned situations. I always plan far too much in advance my days or weeks and am now slowly trying to let things go with the flow… the African way. It’s not easy but it’s happening.
Another great thing about my recent Africa trip is the fact that I’ve come back with a lot of pictures. You can check out my updated gallery here to see the work I did with NGOs throughout my time there. The collections will also show further insight into what I discovered there. To motivate you to see the gallery for yourself, here’s a small snapshot of some of the pictures there.
It’s also the time of the month you are all waiting for; the monthly free wallpaper. 🙂 After trying out a few in the last days I’m finally happy with the one I’ve attached here. I hope you will like it as well. Don’t forget, just right click, select “save image as..” and set as wallpaper according to the operating system you use (Windows, Mac,…).
I’m now going to relax in Hong Kong on what I feel is a well deserved break but of course will also try to get some good images while I’m here so keep you posted.
